During Darley Weekend

Retama Park, February 27, 2009-- A lively crowd cheered on some of the very best colts and fillies in the country on Darley Weekend in Texas, as the horses vied for big money in the second legs of the 2009 Arabian Triple Crown.

The Texas Yellow Rose went off as the 9th race, with 7 four-year-old fillies going to post. In a strong drive down the stretch, A Second Wind prevailed over Black Beaches by 1 1/4 lengths, with Ashton Rose taking third. A Second Wind is by Nivour De Cardonne and out of the mare Wind Gypzi, by Starbask. She is owned by the partnership Berry Best of Friends LLC., was bred by Alan Kirshner and Deb Mihaloff, and trained by Lynn Ashby. Roxane Losey had a great ride on this filly tonight, and had ridden A Second Wind in the January 24th Daughters of the Desert Oaks to take third. A Second Wind's race record now stands at 2/7(2-1-2)1, $37,806.

Eight colts and geldings went to post for The Texas Six Shooter, the 10th race of the evening. Qjuick Sand PW won the first leg of Arabian Triple Crown colt division, the Drinkers of the Wind Derby at Los Alamitos. He came to Texas to gamely command a 5 1/4 length victory in the Texas Six Shooter, romping the Darley winner Golly Bret who settled for second. Theoretically ran third in a steady race from off the pace. Qjuick Sand PW is a Burning Sand colt out of Doya Juana Dance by Juan De Shawn, owned by Warren Shelley, bred by Pam Weidel, trained by Helen Shelley, and ridden tonight by Joy Scott. Qjuick Sand PW's earnings are now $100,144, with a record of 2/13(6-1-3)3-1.
