2008 Regional Cup Championship Results!
In order to spread the wealth of the Arabian Cup program, throughout 2008 there was a showcase of Regional Cup Championship races. Tracks offered two Cup races, one for colts and geldings and one for fillies and mares. Cup nominated horses benefited from reduced entry fees and received preference into the races. It should be understood that these races did not take the place of the national Arabian Cup Championships, which were not held in 2008. We were very excited to hold these regional races throughout the country to bring additional excitement to all the race meets.

2008 Colorado Cup Championship Results
Arapahoe Park Racing Secretary, Stu Slagle says "Djet Set de Falgas setting a track record in the Rocky Mountain Arabian Cup was one of the memorable moments of the 2008 Arapahoe Park season."
Rounding out the meet and bringing it to a classy close were two major stakes events on the final Saturday and Sunday of the 2008 Arapahoe Park race meet. On August 9th the Soaring Eagle Distaff Cup was run, with 7 fillies and mares competing for $20,700 over a mile and a sixteenth. Coming out on top of this field of tough girls, with a time of 2:02.96 on a heavy track, was Jessys Princess for owner Sam Vasquez and trainer Elizabeth Brand. Finishing 2nd was Vibvilcca for owners Dan and Claudia Spears, trained by Kathleen Vinson, and in 3rd was Black Beaches for owner Jane Teutsch, trained by Matthew Glover.
On August 10th, closing day, the $21,200 Rocky Mountain Cup Race was contested over a distance of a mile and an eighth. With the post parade being led by Denver Bronco's mascot Thunder, ridden by his handler of over 10 years, Anne Judge-Wegener, the field of 8 came on the track in style. A dry, fast track set the stage for Djet Set De Falgas to win the race and turn in a new track record of 2:02.72. Chock up one more win for his connections, trainer Elizabeth Brand and owner Jane Teutsch and her husband Ray, who were on hand to watch the race. After leading the race at this unbelievable speed, Bush Hog came in 2nd for owner Lapco Arabians and trainer Ricky Collier, with Sharp Cookie making a driving finish to end up 3rd for owner Jane Teutsch and trainer Elizabeth Brand.
COBRA was pleased and honored to have special guests on hand to present the trophies and participate in the activities of closing weekend - from the ARC, we were joined by Susan Meyer and Richard Kiekow, and from the AJC, Hamp Johnston.
